€¢ Which Objective Focal Lenght Compares to Human Eye?
Human eye cannot be directly compared to any camera because of the rounded spherical reception area (retina). This allows us humans to have field of view (FOV) about 180 without visible geometrical distortion. 180 FOV requires serious fish eye lens to reproduce, which distorts perspective to fit on small quadratic and flat reception area (film field or CCD/CMOS chip).
Reproduction of 50mm lens on digital and analog SLR cameras compares best to way the human eye sees the world. Shorter lenses starting to show (for human) visible geometrical distortion and longer tends to make it more deep for us.

What lens equal to your eye is easy to test. Open both eyes and put one on viewfinder and with second look the same direction as camera. Try to zoom your lens to value where both pictures are easiest to merge as you would do when looking with both eyes.

Or said better, longer lenses than 50mm are zooming in the world to you, while wider lenses are making it smaller than you see with your eye.
